on the walk back from the teashop to the apt (about 25ish minutes without stops), i was thinking about home.
what makes a place home or not.
nashville is home. b/c it's familiar. and also b/c i have a life there. when i'm gone, people miss me and returning feels good.
tupelo WAS home. i don't really feel compelled to be there except for holidays. and my family, well wherever they are is good to me. granted, i prefer to be in ms with them. it would be weird if they moved b/c of memories and friends that i would be leaving behind.
where will be home in the future?
all i know is that it is really something how you can be far from home and not feel like it because you know one person is near by.
only one person.
that's all it takes to take away homesickness. loneliness. fear.
seeing one person and knowing that you could be anywhere with them, and it would be an adventure- of the good variety, not the scary type.
if only the person that made you feel that way indubitably felt the same.
i get why Genesis went the way it did. why God said that "for this reason, a man will leave his father and mother and connect himself to the woman, and they would be one person."
i finished reading Katie's copy of The Shack, gave it back to her and bought a copy for myself. only to leave it in nashville (STOOP!). anyway though, one conversation between Mack and either The Father or The Holy Spirit ( i forget which), dealt with male:female relationships after the fall.
something to the effect that, before the fall we both received our worth and identity from God, but afterwards, men turned to the work of their hands, and women turned to their relationships with men...thus giving men "rule" over them. The neat thing is that God's initial intention of man and woman was a relationship akin to his relationship with himself (The Trinity)...which i find to be absolutely awesome. no hierarchy no leader or servant....just equality, unity, love, respect, and camaraderie. i guess that is why friendship is the foundation of a lasting deep love. it's not to be shirked at for fear of not growing into romance, etc. hmmm....we've just got it all wrong don't we?
so i guess i said all that to say: that i don't know anything about anything anymore. maybe my being a good friend is good enough for once. maybe i should stop panicking that it's going to ruin the potential of me to have someone decide that they want me to be their bit of home wherever we go. that they'll build with me. that'll we'll embark on a great adventure together.
my first advent calendar!
