i don't think there ever was a part 1....but anyway.
today i got up and decided that i was going to continue to organize music on my new ipod and start reading the book that would carry me through the bulk of the journey to the bahamas tomorrow morning. (or a little later this morning depending on how you look at it).
so after some errands that i ran today, i headed to our town's version of fido, uptown coffee. actually uptown coffee is probably more like a portland brew, but that is beside the point.
i settle down into the nice leather couch to get started, and a friend from church camp crossed my mind. he moved to my town from the delta (which is a little short of hell on earth), to be an accountant. at one point he dated my best friend from kindergarten for a few years, and we didn't talk for 5 years until i ran into him outside of tj maxx at christmas time last year....but that's rambling.
he was going to meet some other friends from church camp days for dinner, one of which is home from military stuff in georgia. so i met up with him and rode to mooreville to the browns' house for dinner.
we reminisced and laughed about crazy church and church camp stories. talked about whatever happened to this or that person. and then we talked about life and what we were doing now. we have grown up.
grown apart.
changed. yet not to the point that we were beyond recognition to each other.
in fact, one of the girls is wanting to move to nashville and i told her she was welcome to come and stay for a bit and meet people. that i'd see about jobs that she's interested in by asking around in my little sphere of influence.
i realized to night as i told jon, that i'm a collector of people to a certain degree.
i have friends from private school days, high school, college, medical school, church camp, traveling abroad, living in nashville, friends of friends. and i keep up with good amounts of them. i don't know how i do it, but somehow i do. and i'm pleased with this. it makes me happy to introduce people to other people, to help people out, to talk about old times, and to plan new things together.
and it seems that no matter how much i change, i stay the same enough to not alienate most people i meet. and somehow the important people in those circles could merge if need be, and get along quite well.
maybe not all things fade away.
my first advent calendar!
