so i know i'm early for this but this is so appropriate.
this morning, and old friend from elementary school popped into my mind. i looked up her family in the phonebook, and as luck would have it, the number is the same as it was in 7th grade (as is my home phone #).
so i called, got her older sister ( who i haven't talked to in over 7 years...), and she told her i called and gave her my home phone #.
later this evening, we met for coffee at the infamous joe muggs in books-a-million, and caught up on the past 5 years.
leslie.
my closest friend from 5-8th grade. we ended up going to different high schools, but we talked once a week all through high school. she was my first "bookworm" friend.
i remember sitting in the loft of her family's barn (they live in the country and have horses), and eating carrots with peanut butter, while the rain hit the tin roof, and we read everything we could get our hands on. then of course, discussing our opinions.
in her attic bedroom, we talked about boys, art, growing up and what that would be like. all our hopes and dreams.
over 10 years later, we realized that we haven't changed too much. a bit more worldly..a little bit more experience. but the same bookworms. the same nerds.
i love it.
she is finishing up her masters in english and wants to teach english abroad. in the meantime, i'm convincing her to visit nashville.
my first advent calendar!
