i am organizing my interviews. currently there are 15.
spread throughout the next 3 months.
lots of traveling is coming up.
today the speaker at grand rounds was the same woman who spoke at grand rounds at loyola last week. (different subject). she is listed as one of the best doctors in america by us news & world reports.....which is awesome.
i chatted with her once her talk was over.
i also have a meeting with the residency director of one of the hospitals this week.
today we were consulted on a woman who was a tourist from korea, who ended up in cardiac arrest for 17 minutes......that's a long time. especially when brain cells start dying after 3-4 min.
needless to say, the damage is quite extensive. so i got sent to the intensive care unit to see her and do a coma exam.
how sad to go on vacation to a foreign country and end up in an ICU with brain damage. later on, i came back to put my note in the chart, and saw that her family had finally arrived to hear the prognosis.
my prayers are with them.

And that is why I would have a hard time being in the medical community. I'm no good with consoling people or with giving comforting words. I'd totally mess it up, you know, and tell a lighthearted joke or something.
