music makes the people come together....yeah

Madonna said it right.

anyone who knows me knows that I love music. all kinds......and that i have a constant soundtrack in my head.

now for some of you, maybe smells or even sights take you back....but for me it is sound.

i have been driving to and from my neurology elective, so i travel from downtown chicago to the suburb of maywood...about 30-45 minutes with traffic. i invested in one of those adapter thingies for my ipod, so i put the ipod on shuffle and am at the mercy of its whims while i drive in the mornings and the afternoons.

my life from possibly the age of 6ish to now is on that little machine. i have so many memories connected to songs.

here are a few i guess:
Smashing Pumpkins- Tonight, Tonight: summer camp 1997 right before i started freshman year of high school. i'm an old soul so i made friends with people who were already in college. in particular this guy named john who was 5 years older than me. i might have had a bit of a crush on him. :-) it was one of his favorite bands at the time, so i would sit with him and his friends in the starlight listening to that Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness album. i remember it like it was yesterday.

Michael Jackson- Smooth Criminal: my mom's baby sister would spend the summers in MS with us every year, and we'd watch the OUTLAWED MTV when my parents were asleep. envision: a small(er) britt in her nightgown, trying to defy gravity and lean over without falling like MJ does in that video. LOL

Incubus-Pardon Me: senior year of high school.....a late night when MTV2 was showing not so famous bands. i was with my best friend James, and we heard the song and KNEW it was going to be huge. Make Yourself was probably the best album they made. I saw them at Memphis in May a year later after my first year of college with the same friend; and we drove back home that night/early early morning after their show blasting the album in his jeep, singing the songs at the top of our lungs. Probably one of the favorite nights of my life. when things were simple....and being "grown up" was just beginning. ......hmmm. boy how things change.

I could go on and on. i remember the first time I've heard so many bands. so many songs. the songs i've chased....like the Air "Playground Love".....it took me 2 YEARS TO FIND THIS SONG.
songs that make me tear up or laugh out loud (literally) or just shake my head.

my life is wrapped up in music.
