So i'm on call tonight at Presby.
in the freezing cold callroom. by the drafty window. beth and sophia have been summoned away for something. i've returned from checking on a cross cover patient on the other side of the hospital, and on my beloved (not so much) patient that is being monitored for DTs. (alcohol withdrawal....he spit at a nurse earlier, which landed him in restraints with some ativan).
at any rate, i thought about the fact that this is the beginning of a long period of years that my 2weeks of holiday vacation are no more.
i have never not had christmas/newyears off. i have never not had thanksgiving off. a year of firsts.
i had never lived alone before this year. or been in a car wreck with someone else. or lots of other things.
2009 has been amazing and painful and i'm glad it's almost over.
the end of school for me.
the beginning of a career.
the start of a new part of life, in a new region, by myself.
new friends.
new church.
2008 had quite a bit of death and damage.
this year was better.
it still had its confusion. but not as much angst and heartache.
for which i'm thankful.
i wonder what 2010 holds?
maybe some fun?
maybe some new goals?
i'm sure new people.
i presume more doors closing and others opening.
we shall see.
my first advent calendar!
