it's about the time

when i list my favorite albums of the year.

to be absolutely honest, i was not too impressed with the turnout of music this year. in albums per se.

maybe i was too busy to thoroughly investigate. at any rate, i'm going to do my list by song. in no particular order.

BRITT'S LIST OF LISTENING-WORTHY SONGS FOR 2008:

1. Coldplay- Death and all Friends: it sounds like trying to me. Almost like climbing a mountain. especially with the instrumental parts that swell. and then the splendid chimes at the end and the lines, "and in the end, we lie awake and dream our escape." It got me through a rough patch in the summer.

2. MGMT- Electric Feel: if i had a #1 song, this might be it. It just makes me want to get up and dance. or attempt to use my (zero) feminine wiles on some really cute guy somewhere....

3. Death Cab for Cutie-Cath: the lesson of this song is to look before you leap. and that it is often easier said, than don

4. We are Scientists- After Hours: if i were in high school....this would so be a Senior year song. who cares if it was on the Nick and Nora's ......soundtrack. (movie was sort a letdown). It is all about youth.

5. Sigur Ros- Gobbledigook: happy happy happy! at a time when i needed new music and new thoughts, this saved the day. Especially since the previous album by this group was rife with memories.

6. Lykke Li- Little Bit: gotta love the Scandinavians. Sondre, Sigur Ros, the Cardigans....yep. It's cute and up beat.

7. Kings of Leon- Use Somebody & Sex on Fire: I can't decide. they are both as catchy as heck. especially after watching them play live on SNL with Rick shushing everyone. HAH!

8. TV on the Radio- Family Tree: okay okay....so maybe ONE album makes the list. Dear Science is fantastic. grows on you with every listen.

9. Bloc Party- Signs: confession: it was playing during a tear-causing scene of GG. BUT! it also has bells as percussion!

10. William Fitzsimmons- You Still Hurt Me: true. and pretty. his voice is clear and thoughtful.

11. Vampire Weekend- Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa & Ottoman: what a fun band from an ivy league school. that gets them a high five. oh! and you have a harpisichord in your instruments? sign me up!

12. Keane- Spiralling: if you are one of those people who gets up on tables and dances while drunk, then this is the song for you. I don't know anyone who does that.

13. Brooke Waggoner- Young Friend: sounds like the 1970s in the summer in a convertible. can i wear my hair like Farah please?

14. Paper Route- Are We All Forgotten: "I still believe that change can happen, though it does, it happens slowly." I think that sums it up. and live? WOW.

15. Santogold- Creator: fun dancey music

16. KS Rhoads- Dark Hotel: a bit of a prayer. one I prayed quite a bit.

17. Jay Clifford- Know When To Walk Away: Truer words have n'er been spoken.
